Aim To provide all the necessary theory and practical experience to turn you into a confident diver and to gain the internationally recognised PADI Open Water qualification that will enable you to dive to 18m. Description The course is made up of two sections: 1. Confined Water Section Knowledge development: - Safety - Dive equipment - Basic dive principles - Practical sessions held in a swimming pool: - Dive skills - Practical tests Exam The Knowledge Development is a mixture of self study and Instructor led sessions on Monday nights. Practical sessions in the pool are conducted on Saturday and Sundays, with further knowledge development also during the day. The final exam is held on Sunday afternoon. 2. Open Water Section Students must apply the knowledge and skills learned during the confined water section. They will also gain new skills that can't practically be learned in confined water. Preparation Students should enrol at least 2 weeks before the course start date. They will then receive their PADI Open Water packs that contain a PADI Medical Statement and a PADI Open Water Dive Manual. Students must have their GP complete the medical statement and return this to us before the course start date. It is important that students read the entire manual, and complete all quizzes and knowledge reviews before commencing the course. Qualification Students who complete the course successfully will be qualified PADI Open Water divers. This is an internationally recognised qualification and is valuable for both recreation and possible career paths. Age 12 years and over (students under 18 need parental consent, students under 15 will gain the Junior Open Water Qualification.) Location New Zealand is an amazing place to dive with unique and varied marine life and some very special dive spots, we enjoy showing these places to our students and offering a quality dive experience. In order to do this we offer all our dive courses in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. Due to it's fantastic situation, even if the weather does its worst we can usually find somewhere to dive and have not had to cancel a course because of bad visibility or weather for the last 10 years. The water in the Marlborough Sounds is usually warmer than the Canterbury coast and the visibility is always clearer, because of this our students enjoy the diving there and want to continue to dive after the course is completed. All accommodation in the Marlborough Sounds is included in the course fees. Cost Come into our shop to find out our prices. * Some students may require additional training to complete the requirements of the qualification. We are happy to provide this; an additional charge may apply. For more info on the course or to find out the dates available please contact us
